The new Presidential Elections map details election results from 1789 to 2008. This map was prepared by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) as part of the National Atlas of the United States®. The map shows the electoral votes won, by political party and State, for the fifty-five Presidential elections from George Washington in 1789 to Barack Obama in 2008. In addition to a small electoral votes map, the 2008 election is illustrated with a larger, more detailed map that shows the popular vote results at the county level. This National Atlas map illustrates the evolution of America's political parties and its election laws and procedures.
