Additional Details
- Description
- The late Eocene Chesapeake Bay impact structure of southeastern Virginia may be Earths best preserved large impact crater formed in a siliciclastic continental shelf environment. The 85-kilometer-wide structure contains saline ground water and has a profound influence on water quality. The USGS-NASA Langley corehole is the first corehole to sample the entire crater fill section down to crystalline basement. The chapters in this volume present scientific results from that corehole, related coreholes, and geophysical surveys.
